On the occasion of the opening of the gallery's new space at 21 rue Chapon in Paris, baudoin lebon is pleased to present a selection of works by Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) from 5 May to 30 June 2021. A major and unclassifiable figure of the 20th century, Jean Dubuffet occupies a special place in the history of the gallery. The exhibition will present a series of unpublished drawings made between 1948 and 1981; they are from the cycle of Matériologies (including the Historiette de Terre, the result of his many experiments with matter), as well as the famous characters from the Hourloupe cycle.

Baudoin lebon presents the exhibition Chimeras, with Joel-Peter Witkin and Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand from Thursday, February 25 to Sunday, March 28, 2021.

These two photographers, masters of installations, have always explored themes that emphasize the strange, the surreal, in order to reveal « chimeras ».

In Joel-Peter Witkin's work, we are surrounded by strange beings, between realistic and fantastic creatures.  Through a work of hybridization, he gives body to beings that relate to all species without belonging to any.

As for Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand, he metamorphoses everyday objects or objects purchased in flea markets. In Recto Verso a Plexiglas figurine gives birth to a kind of four-armed Martian, with bones everywhere and a two-faced head who does not know which side to look at.

These two photographers are also outstanding technicians, who explore the inventiveness of the photographic act in the intimacy of the laboratory, through various manipulations and formulas, and reveal to us a poetic and conceptual imagination.
