Bill ARMSTRONG
Présentation
Fasciné par l'effet profond que la couleur peut avoir sur la perception et les émotions, Bill Armstrong produit des photographies luxuriantes, semi-abstraites et semi-figuratives. Travaillant par séries, il réalise ses photographies en prenant des photographies intentionnellement floues d'autres photographies. Par exemple, pour sa série "Infinity", commencée en 1997, Bill Armstrong rassemble des photographies existantes - sculptures romaines, dessins de maîtres anciens ou photos de films - et les modifie de diverses manières, notamment en les découpant ou en les recouvrant de peinture. Il règle ensuite l'objectif de son appareil photo sur "l'infini", une plage extrêmement floue, et photographie ces images manipulées. Pour expliquer son processus et ses résultats, il écrit : "La défocalisation extrême me permet de mélanger et de distiller les teintes, créant ainsi des rhapsodies de couleurs qui sont des pièces méditatives - des aperçus d'un espace de couleur pure, au-delà de notre focalisation, au-delà de notre connaissance".
