Rafael NAVARRO
Introduction
Rafael NAVARRO was born in 1940, Zaragoza, Spain. He is a Spanish art photographer.
He began his photographic work at the dawn of the 1970s by first photographing theater and sports circles, before beginning to develop his own visual language. Since then, he has never ceased to immortalize the human body and its reflections, seeking to emphasize a beauty resulting from an idea and a sensation. His work revolves around two main axes: the study of feminine forms and the play of shadows and lights which he uses with a masterful hand.
Navarro quickly became very active in the world of photography when in 1977 he joined the Alabern group with Manuel Esclusa (among others). A year later, he was appointed representative member of the Latin American Council of Photography and also became an advisor to the Miro Foundation.
His work has been exhibited more than 500 times in galleries and museums around the world and makes up an important part of the collections of many institutions such as the National Library of France (BNF), the European House of Photography and contemporary art museums in Brussels or Buenos Aires. The artist is also the subject of numerous publications such as the Catalog Raisonné 1975-1998, published in 2000.
