James BARNOR
Introduction
Born in 1929 in Accra, James Barnor is considered a pioneer of Ghanaian photography. He carried out international commissions for Drum (an influential African magazine). In his studio "Ever Young", established in Accra in the 1950s, he captured societies in transition: the accession to independence of his country, then the Swinging London of the 1960s, the capital of the United Kingdom becoming a multicultural metropolis. When he returned to settle permanently in Ghana in the early 1970s, he was one of the first African photographers to work with color film.
