Eugène ATGET
Introduction
Eugène Atget was born in Libourne on February 12, 1857. A French photographer, he specializes in taking documentary pictures of the city of Paris. Originally, he wanted to be an actor, but nothing predestined him to become a photographer. Eugène Atget first became famous as a painter, after having abandoned his dream of the stage. He soon gave up painting to take up photography, capturing every corner of Paris in order to document the city for artists. This testimony of a bygone Paris reveals the photographer's love for this picturesque place of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Eugène Atget died on August 4, 1927 in Paris, in poverty.
